About the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Program

Introduction: The purpose of this instruction is to provide the general guidance and direction to be followed by the Cadets in the Chugiak High School (CHS) Naval Junior Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) Program.  The focus will be on those functions and items that are unique to our NJROTC Unit.  It is guidance and direction found in the Naval Service Training Command (NSTC) Instruction CNETINST 1533.9K or the further regulations promulgated in the NJROTC Cadet Field Manual (CFM).  Applicable portions of these publications will be referenced as needed throughout this instruction.

Develop informed and responsible citizens. Give students an awareness of their responsibilities, duties, and rights as citizens.

Promote habits of orderliness and precision. Understanding that the development of good habits and an order in one's life has assisted others to achieve high levels of success.

Develop a high degree of personal honor, self-reliance, self-discipline, and leadership. These personal qualities are found in most of or successful leaders.

Promote an understanding of the basic elements and requirements for national security. Explain the need for armed forces and the relationship between armed forces and a democratic government.

Provide incentives to live healthy and drug free lives. What are some of the consequences of the choices we make?

Develop leadership potential. NJROTC gives many opportunities for leadership at all levels.

Promotes high school completion. The importance of a good education is a stepping-stone to future success.
